45th Session of NA: 79 percent of agenda left unaddressed

NA calls for probing factory fires in Karachi, Lahore

ISLAMABAD, September 13, 2012: The National Assembly, which met for three hours and 10 minutes during the last sitting of the 45th session, suspended the regular agenda and adopted two resolutions. Through a resolution the House called upon the governments of Sindh and Punjab to set up judicial commissions to probe factory fires in Karachi and Lahore which have claimed more than 270 lives.

National Assembly: Most of the agenda left unaddressed

ISLAMABAD, September 12, 2011: The seventh sitting of the National Assembly’s 45th session, which met for three hours and 15 minutes, left most of the agenda unaddressed including four bills. The four bills on the orders of the day which were not taken up included the Charter of Child Rights Bill 2009 and the Abolition of Discretionary Quotas in Housing Schemes Bill 2011 along with the Federal Pension Bill 2012 and the Registration of Hajj Bill 2008.

ISLAMABAD, September 10, 2012: The National Assembly, which met for three hours during the sixth sitting of the 44th session, did not discuss the motion on law and order in the country. The government ally – ANP – continued its boycott of the proceedings over the issuance of local government ordinance in Sindh.

ISLAMABAD, September 7, 2012: Starting an hour and three minutes late, the fifth sitting of the 45th session on Friday witnessed a walkout by the legislators of a government ally over issuance of the local government ordinance for Sindh. ANP announced that it would boycott the remaining session.

ISLAMABAD, September 6, 2012: Starting 66 minutes late, the National Assembly met for two hours and 39 minutes on Thursday adopted a Resolutions paying tribute to the army to mark the Defence Day. The sitting was also witness by low attendance as only 104 Members were present at the outset and 66 were there when the sitting was adjourned.

ISLAMABAD, September 4, 2012: Starting an hour and 42 minutes behind schedule, the National Assembly met for two hours and 11 minutes during the second sitting of the ongoing 45th session, leaving most of the agenda unaddressed. As an ambitious agenda was set up for the Private Members’ Day sitting, the National Assembly left 91% of the agenda unaddressed.
