Balochistan Assembly passes two govt. bills

ISLAMABAD, November 27, 2021: The Balochistan Assembly took up entire agenda and passed two government bills on Saturday, observes Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) in its daily factsheet.

Following are key observations of the proceedings during the fourth sitting of the 47th session: 

 Members’ Participation

  • The House met for 50 minutes.
  • The sitting started at 05:07 pm against the scheduled time of 03:00 pm.
  • The deputy speaker presided over the entire sitting in the absence of speaker.
  • The leader of the house attended the sitting for 23 minutes.
  • The leader of the opposition was present during the entire proceedings.
  • As many as ten (15%) lawmakers were present at the outset and 23 (35%) at the adjournment of the sitting.
  • The parliamentary leaders of HDP, JWP, PNP, MMAP and BNP-M attended the sitting.
  • Two minority lawmakers were present.

Output

  • Moved by parliamentary secretary for food, the House passed two government bill including the Balochistan Food Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2021 and the Balochistan Food Fortification Bill, 2021.
  • Parliamentary secretary for food presented four statutory reports in the House.

 Order and Institutionalization

  • Fifteen lawmakers spoke on points of order for 24 minutes.
  • The House was adjourned to meet again on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at 03:00 pm.

 Transparency

  • ‘Orders of the Day’ was available to the legislators, observers and others.
  • The attendance of lawmakers was not available to the observers and media.
