The annual returns by parties must be submitted in Form-D (Consolidated Statement of Accounts of a Political Party Audited by a Chartered Accountant), as provided in the Elections Act, 2017. These returns must provide details of party’s annual income and expenditure, sources of its funds, a party’s assets and liabilities.
In addition to the financial statements, each political party must submit an audit report issued by a chartered accountant, and a certification by the party that it has not received any funds from prohibited sources and the statements contain an accurate financial position of the party.
The submission of these annual returns is a pre-requisite for allocation of party symbols for the elections.
