Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) stands as Pakistan’s first domestic observation group, dedicated to election observation, research, and reform initiatives. Supported by Trust for Democratic Education and Accountability (TDEA), FAFEN employs long-term, nationwide, and statistically rigorous observation methodologies in adherence to international standards and best practices for observing elections throughout Pakistan. As the first civil society network of networks in Pakistan, FAFEN endeavors to enhance representativeness, inclusion, transparency, accountability within electoral processes. Through evidence-based recommendations, FAFEN has played a pivotal role in the electoral reforms process, making significant strides towards ensuring fairness and integrity in the electoral system.

FAFEN’s comprehensive approach to observation ensures that every aspect of the electoral cycle, from voter registration to polling day procedures and post-election processes, is observed. Through the deployment of trained and accredited observers across the country, FAFEN provides insights into the conduct of elections, facilitating informed analysis and advocacy for electoral reforms.

FAFEN’s commitment to neutrality has earned recognition from media, political parties, the ECP, civil society, and international donors, establishing FAFEN as a credible source of independent, and impartial information.

Elections and Gender

FAFEN was the first organization to raise the issue of the gender-gap on the electoral rolls between male and female voters. Thus far, FAFEN programming has directly facilitated the registration of over 1.5 million women in collaboration with ECP and NADRA.
