KP Assembly Adopts Two Resolutions

ISLAMABAD, April 21, 2014: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly adopted two resolutions, took up a calling attention notice and discussed the issue of ignoring some areas of the province during fourth sitting of 12th session on Monday, says Free and Fair Election Network in its Daily Factsheet.

The House also condemned the attack on senior journalist Hamid Mir by adopting a resolution sponsored by provincial health minister. Another resolution moved by a PML-N lawmaker demanded of the government not to collect property tax from those who gave away their lands for Tarbela and Ghazi Brotha dams.

The provincial Education Minister introduced the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Elementary and Secondary Education Foundation (Amendment) Bill, 2014. The House took up a calling attention notice regarding the choice of land for construction of social welfare complex in District Bannu.

The House discussed the issue of ignoring major parts of the province in important matters and the problems arising out due to this. Eleven lawmakers debated the issue for an hour and two minutes.

The House took up 7 of 20 starred questions (requiring oral as well as written replies). The lawmakers asked six supplementary questions as well.

The members spoke on 5 points of order consuming nine minutes of the proceedings.

Members’ Participation in House Proceedings:

  • The KP Assembly met for five hours and 3 minutes, taking two breaks of an hour and 10 minutes.
  • The sitting started at 1452 hours against the scheduled time of 1400 hours, witnessing a delay of 52 minutes.
  • The Speaker chaired the entire sitting while the Deputy Speaker was also present.
  • The Chief Minister came eight minutes late and attended the remaining sitting while the slot for Leader of the Opposition is still vacant.
  • The parliamentary leaders of AJIP, ANP, PPPP, JUI-F and QWP attended the proceedings.
  • Forty-three members were present at the outset and 53 at the adjournment while a maximum of 62 were there at the adjournment of the sitting.
  • Three minority members attended the sitting.
  • Ten members applied for leave.
