Punjab Assembly announces election schedule for CM’s slot

ISLAMABAD, April 2, 2022: The Punjab Assembly was adjourned after meeting for 14 minutes only and announcing the election schedule for the slot of chief minister, observes Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) it its daily factsheet on Saturday.

Following are key observations of the House proceedings during the first sitting of 40th session:

Members’ Participation

  • The House met for 14 minutes.
  • The sitting started at 02:53 pm against the scheduled time of 11:00 am.
  • The speaker chaired the entire sitting.
  • The deputy speaker was also present.
  • The opposition leader did not attend the sitting.
  • As many as 352 MPAs (95%) were present at the outset and adjournment of the sitting.
  • Parliamentary leaders PPPP and PRHP of all political parties were absent.
  • All eight minority lawmakers attended the sitting.

 Order and Institutionalization

  • The Secretary Punjab Assembly announced the schedule for election of chief minister under Article 130 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
  • The House was adjourned to meet again on Sunday, April 3, 2022 at 11:30 am.
