Punjab Assembly condoles death of PML-N lawmaker, defers regular agenda

ISLAMABAD, May 31, 2021: The Punjab Assembly did not take up its regular business on Monday to express condolence over the demise of PML-N lawmaker, Chaudhary Khush Akhtar Subhani who passed away yesterday, observes Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) in Daily Factsheet.

Following are key observations of the House proceedings during the sixth sitting of the 32nd session:

Members’ Participation

  • The House met for 16 minutes.
  • The sitting started at 03:32 pm against the scheduled time of 02:00 pm.
  • The speaker and the deputy speaker were absent.
  • A member of panel of chairmen presided over the entire sitting.
  • The leader of the House (chief minister) and the opposition leader did not attend the sitting.
  • As many as 56 MPAs (15 percent) were present at the outset and also at the adjournment of the sitting.
  • None of the parliamentary leaders attended the sitting.
  • Two out of eight minority lawmakers was present.

Output

  • The House deferred the entire agenda to condole the death of PML-N lawmaker.

Order and Institutionalization

  • Three lawmakers spoke on points of order for six minutes and highlighted the political career of deceased lawmaker.
  • The House was adjourned to meet again on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at 02:00 pm.
