ISLAMABAD, August 21: More than 1.4 million cases of diseases, including widespread instances of gastrointestinal infections and scabies, were reported in 51 districts nationwide in May this year, according to a FAFEN monitoring report released on Sunday. The total number of gastrointestinal infections and scabies cases reported was 437,515 and 211,320 respectively, the highest recorded this year.
DetailsThe report collected the number of registered First Information Reports (FIRs) against 27 offences in 63 districts across country – 61 of them reported 790 murder cases. These also included 25 reported cases of ‘honour killings’ in 12 districts. On average, 13 murder cases were registered in each of the 61 districts in May this year.

ISLAMABAD, August 17: A FAFEN report on Wednesday said prices of commodities have witnessed a mixed trend in the first half of Ramazan, with 26 items going up by 5% and 20 going down by 7% on monthly basis. Prices of 26 commodities including meat, rice, poultry, sweeteners and some kitchen fuel items registered an average increase of 5% while 20 commodities including apple, potato, tomato, some pulses and vegetable ghee registered an average decrease of 7% in Ramazan, compared to their prices on 10th July 2011.
