Lahore, December 3, 2023: International Day of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), celebrated every year on December 3, provides a platform for advocating the rights of individuals with disabilities across various aspects of society. The Shah Hussain Regional Network of FAFEN is actively contributing to this cause by raising awareness on the inclusion of PWDs in the electoral processes.
The network’s awareness initiative focuses on the challenges faced by PWDs at polling stations, highlighting the accessibility issues that hamper their ability to exercise their fundamental right to vote. Looking ahead to the general elections in 2024, this awareness campaign plays a vital role in highlighting the critical issue of inadequate facilities at polling stations. By proactively addressing these challenges, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) can work towards implementing necessary measures to ensure that polling stations are equipped with the essential facilities for an inclusive election. These efforts of FAFEN’s Shah Hussain Regional Network contribute significantly to a more inclusive and representative electoral system in the general elections 2024.
