Find out more here.   ISLAMABAD: The Constitution of Pakistan terms it mandatory to convene the session of the National Assembly within 21 days, following the day on which a general election is held, to elect Speaker, Deputy Speaker and Leader of the House. According to Article 91 (2) of the Constitution of Pakistan, “the National Assembly shall meet on the twenty-first day following the day on which a general election to the Assembly is held, unless sooner summoned by the President”.

NA Session After General Election: Speaker's & Deputy Speaker's Election

The National Assembly shall, at its first meeting and to the exclusion of any other business, elect from amongst its members a Speaker and a Deputy Speaker following which they will make before the National Assembly oath. After the election of Speaker and the Deputy Speaker, the National Assembly shall, to the exclusion of any other business, proceed to elect without debate on of its Muslim members to be the Prime Minister who will be called upon by the President to assume the office of Prime Minister and he/she shall, before entering upon the office, make before the President oath. After the election and oath of Prime Minister, a cabinet will be formed with Prime Minister as its head, to aid and advise the President in the exercise of his functions.

NA Session After General Election: Cut-off Date for Session 

It is to mention that General elections in Pakistan was held recently on July 25, 2018 and it is mandatory to summon the Session of National Assembly before August 15, 2018.  It would be the 15^th National Assembly which would have a total of 342 members, including 60 seats reserved for women and 10 for non-Muslims. The seats in the National Assembly are allocated to all federating units and the Federal Capital on the basis of population, as officially published in the last preceding census.
