National Assembly Meets for Five Minutes

ISLAMABAD, March 4, 2021: The National Assembly proceeded for only five minutes on Thursday and was prorogued without taking up any agenda, observes Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) in its Daily Factsheet.

Following are key observations of the proceedings during seventh sitting of the 29th session: 

 Members’ Participation

  • The National Assembly met for five minutes.
  • The sitting started at 1112 hours against the scheduled time of 1100 hours.
  • The Deputy Speaker presided over the entire sitting in the absence of Speaker.
  • The Leaders of the House (Prime Minister) and the Opposition did not attend the sitting.
  • Twenty-six (8%) lawmakers were present at the outset and 30 (9%) at adjournment of the sitting.
  • Two minority lawmakers attended the sitting.

Output  

  • The House did not take up any agenda.

Order and Institutionalization

  • Soon after the recitation of Holy Quran, Naat and playing of National Anthem, the Deputy Speaker announced to prorogue the session sine die.

Transparency

  • ‘Orders of the Day’ was available to the legislators, observers and public.
  • Attendance of lawmakers was available to the media and observers.
