Punjab Assembly session adjourned without voting to elect new chief minister

ISLAMABAD, April 3, 2022: The Punjab Assembly was adjourned after meeting for 13 minutes only without voting to elect the new leader of the house, observes Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) it its daily factsheet on Sunday.

Following are key observations of the House proceedings during the second sitting of 40th session:

 Members’ Participation

  • The House met for 13 minutes.
  • The sitting started at 12:26 pm against the scheduled time of 11:30 am.
  • The deputy speaker chaired the entire sitting.
  • The opposition leader attended the entire sitting.
  • As many as 364 MPAs ( 98%) were present at the outset and adjournment of the sitting.
  • Parliamentary leaders of PPPP and PRHP were present.
  • Seven out of eight minority lawmakers attended the sitting.

 Order and Institutionalization:

  • The House was adjourned to meet again on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at 11:30 am.
